Tattoo Aftercare Instructions with Second Skin Product
Congratulations on your new tattoo! Proper aftercare is crucial for optimal healing and long-lasting results. Follow these instructions to ensure your tattoo heals beautifully with the help of a second skin product.
1. Initial Application:
- Your tattoo artist has applied a second skin product to protect your tattoo.
- Leave the second skin on for the recommended time (usually 4-5 days) before removal.
- Do not be alarmed if you see excess ink and fluids trapped within the second skin – this is normal.
- If the second skin begins to leak, continue with the removal process. (If the second skin is leaking this means that bacteria can come into contact with your new tattoo which can cause infection, continue with removal and cleansing process.)
- If the second skin needs to be replaced before the recommended time of removal contact our shop and we will replace it for you.
2. Removal of Second Skin:
- Wash your hands thoroughly before touching the tattoo.
- Gently peel off the second skin, starting from one edge. If it feels stuck, wet it with lukewarm water to ease removal.
- Clean the tattoo and the surrounding area with mild, fragrance-free soap and water.
3. Cleansing:
- Wash your tattoo 2-3 times a day with a gentle, gentle fragrance-free handsoap and lukewarm water.
- Use your clean hands to lather the soap and pat the tattoo dry with a clean, soft paper towel.
4. Moisturizing:
- Apply a thin layer of a tattoo-friendly , fragrance-free lotion or tattoo ointment after each wash.
- Avoid petroleum-based products, as they can suffocate the skin.

5. Avoid Irritants:
- Avoid exposing your tattoo to direct sunlight for at least two weeks. Once healed, use sunblock with a high SPF to protect the tattoo from fading.
- Avoid submerging your tattoo in water, such as swimming pools, hot tubs, or baths, until it is fully healed.
6. Clothing Considerations:
- Wear loose, breathable clothing to prevent friction and irritation.
- Avoid tight clothing that may rub against the tattoo.
7. Itching and Peeling:
- Itching and peeling are normal parts of the healing process. Do not scratch; instead, gently pat or slap the area if it itches.
- Do not pick at any peeling skin; let it come off naturally.
8. Healing Timeline:
- Your tattoo should be mostly healed within 2-4 weeks, but individual healing times may vary.
- Continue to moisturize as needed, even after the initial healing period.
9. Signs of Infection:
- If you notice excessive redness, swelling, pus, or a foul odor, consult a healthcare professional promptly.
Remember, proper aftercare is essential for preserving the vibrancy and longevity of your tattoo. If you have any concerns or questions, don't hesitate to reach out to your tattoo artist or a healthcare professional.
Enjoy your new ink!
